While working with Record Group 75 (Bureau of Indian Affairs), Entry 222 at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. today, I came across a document list payments that would be made for services rendered in a file named “March 1837 through November 1838”
Names appearing in document signed 15 March 1837 for settlements for services rendered to: John Ridge, William Rogers, Saml W Bell, Andrew Ross, Joseph A Foremon, Geo W Adair, John Gunter, James Stair, Desedasker, Turtle Fields, Archilla Smith, Brice Martin, John Simson, George Chambers, Jessee Halfbreed, Archy Fields, Stand Watie, James Foster, Johnson Rogers, Lovely Rogers, and John A Bell.
RG75, Entry 222 is described in PI-163 thusly: “This series includes correspondence, property valuations, certificates of valuations, property returns, receipts for payments, petitions, depositions, registers, lists, schedules, notes, opinions, contracts, and powers of attorney. The records concern removal, valuatlon of property, claims, and other related subjects. Many of these records are preliminary versions of records among the records the Boards of Cherokee Commissioners, particularly those of the First Board.”
