For many years the Georgia Civil War Heritage Trails (GCWHT) has been hard at work design historic tours within the state relating to various aspects of the Civil War (also known as “the late unpleasantness). By far the largest efforts relate to the march of Sherman’s troops from Chattanooga to Atlanta (The Atlanta Campaign) and the march of Sherman’s four corps from Atlanta to Savannah (The March to the Sea). Trails are also being developed for other aspects including a Jefferson Davis trail. Steve Longcrier, is the director of this monumental project and he and his wife, Ginger, have lived GCWHT 24-7 for over ten years.

GCWHT is developing historical markers and trail blazers. Visit their website for additional details including maps of some of the trails.

On Tuesday, May 14th, 2012, GCWHT dedicated the interpretive marker for the “Oostanaula River Bridges” in Resaca, Georgia. The marker was installed near the highway in front of the Gordon County.

Unveiling the marker were the president of the Friends of Resaca Battlefield, a member of Resaca’s city council, and two Gordon County officials: president of the Chamber of Commerce and Sheriff.
