Tombstone: Willie and Seddie Gale
This tombstone located within the Smith Meeting House Cemetery in Gilmington, New Hampshire, tells us very little. It simply memorializes Willie and Seddie Gale children of E. and M.J. Gale. No dates were found on this gravestone.
My 2nd great grandparents Eliphalet Gale and Mary Jane (Merrill) Gale had at least eight children. According to James Otis Lyford’sHistory of the Town of Canterbury, New Hampshire, 1727-1912 (2 volumes, 1912), their son William Clark Gale was born 6 March 1855 and died at the age of ten on 20 April 1865 in Canterbury; and their daughter Sarah Angle Gale was born 27 July 1863 in Canterbury [“Canterbury, New Hampshire, Records of Marriages, births, and deaths, 1719-1931,” FHL microfilm 2,259,048, item 3, 306-307] and died there, 26 April 1865.
Many of the family members, including Eliphalet and Mary Jane were buried at the Smith Meeting House Cemetery in Gilmington although the family also resided in Canterbury and later Concord, New Hampshire.
